May 28: Yaskawa Webinar—Grinding Without the Guesswork: A New Way to Bring Robotics to SMBs

Can Robotics Handle Metal Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»’s Dirtiest Jobs? That's the question an upcoming Yaskawa webinar will explore. The free webinar will take an honest look at how Pivot Robotics and OSCO Industries are using automation to tackle one of the most physically demanding jobs on the shop floor: grinding.

Attendees will discover how job shops are overcoming challenges like part variation, inconsistent inputs, and the lack of dedicated programming teams. You’ll hear firsthand what it really takes to automate high-mix material removal—and how their approach could work for any operation.

Topics covered include:

            • Can automation be both flexible and consistent?

            • How does one avoid the need for preprogrammed paths?

            • What lessons carry over to other surface finishing applications?

About the Presenters:

Siddharth Girdhar and Vignesh Rajmohan - Pivot Robotics

Siddharth (CEO) and Vignesh (CTO) are the co-founders of Pivot Robotics, a YCombinator backed startup bringing adaptable automation to high-mix manufacturing. They met at Carnegie Mellon and realized they could apply AI and robotics to real problems in manufacturing, inspired in part by Vignesh’s father, who has spent over 20 years working in the castings industry.

At Pivot, they’re tackling one of the most challenging and under-automated jobs in manufacturing: grinding castings. Their system combines AI and 3D vision to scan each part, detect exactly where material needs to be removed, and adapt toolpaths to match natural variations between castings, all without requiring custom fixturing or large part volumes.

Their first deployment is with OSCO Industries, where they’re partnering with Operations Manager Tom Brower to automate grinding and visual QA across a range of casting SKUs. With this initial push, Pivot aims to solve one of the most difficult manual labor roles in the foundry with an intelligent and versatile singular system that delivers safer, more consistent, and higher-quality results.
