ASP 4-high rolling mill

Targets for the computer industry produced on an ASP rolling mill.
American Steel Products (ASP), in Toledo, OH, has received a large contract from the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) to design and manufacture a hot reversing rolling mill for high strength, high temperature alloys up to 2,500 °F.
Ultra-high strength alloy steel and aluminum are needed by the DOD for the aerospace and shipbuilding industries and small nuclear energy plants. The ASP mill will roll and reduce alloys at over 2,500 °F with reductions of over 50% in each pass. The mill can later be equipped with recoilers for coil-to-coil rolling to produce hot rolled, high carbon and alloy steels.
ASP manufactures hot and cold rolling mills for carbon steel, titanium, tantalum, niobium, copper and aluminum. A large portion of these alloys are used to make computer chips in a process called sputtering, which requires a perfect grain structure for producing consistent, high quality computer chips.
The decision to place the order with the company was due to ASP President Ford B. Cauffiel's many years of experience. Cauffiel has designed and manufactured rolling mills for the BW-Y12 in Tennessee and the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. ASP has in the past supplied rolling mill equipment to Universal Stainless in Pittsburgh, PA, to produce tool steels and ultra-high strength alloy steels.
