Five-Micron Ultrafine Graphite
July 1, 2025
Entegris POCO EDM-1 is a 5-micron Ultrafine graphite that combines strength, consistent metal removal rates and enhanced end wear performance-all while offering cost savings, the company reported. It is suited for a wide range of mold and die applications.
"EDM-1 graphite is a top choice for many electrode designs and mold and die applications due to its consistent structure, machinability, wear performance and cost of ownership value," said a company spokesperson. "Its unique properties make it effective in achieving accurate and intricate shapes in the EDM process with efficient material removal, resulting in high-quality finished products."
Entegris reported that EDM-1 benefits include:
- Optimum surface finish: Achieve surface finishes as fine as 18 VDI with the ability to use fewer electrodes to complete the detail.
- Electrode fabrication: Suited for small cross section detail and other fine features without chipping or breaking.
- Cost benefits: Its wear resistance extends electrode life, reducing the number of electrodes needed to produce the details, which allows for lower consumable costs and machine time in electrode fabrication and sinker EDM.
